Germany is 3rd or 4th all-time in Olympic medal count ( there is a conflict between germany page and olympic medal count page), and 2nd all-time in Winter Games medals. Winter sports are very popular in germany.

About 1/2 the population are members of sports clubs.

Medical Dept – Germany has the oldest universal health care system dating back to 1880’s.

Germany is ranked 20th in life expectancy with 77 for men and 82 for women. The #1 cause of death is cardiovascular disease, #2 is cancer.

Obesity – a 2007 study showed Germany with the highest obesity rate in Europe.
