Today is the one-year anniversary of the podcast. On November 17, 2017 I recorded the first episode of Running: A FEVER. It’s a beautiful day. Despite recent freezing weather we have a sun-filled sky and may hit 70 degrees before that sun drops below the horizon. It is the first podcast I have recorded at Devil’s Den State Park, one of my favorite hiking destinations.

Check out the featured picture in Episode 86 (The Bachelor Party), which shows me in a before-and-after comparison in two separate visits to the summit on this very trail. It’s great weather and we meet lots of men, women, children, and dogs on the way up and down the mountain.

Medical Dept. A warning for those of you who have food allergies: start reading food labels! I found that almost all packaged nuts have package warnings that they contain (or may contain) peanut oil or trace amounts of peanuts. Even the jar of almond butter I bought at Walmart has this warning.

Fashion Dept. The weight loss I experienced this year has made my compression wear somewhat less compressing. But I adapted by using some of these items as long underwear. If you wear a knee sleeve like the ones I wear, you may want to wear them inside your compression tights. They grip the skin better than they grip the compression material, and will more easily stay in place.

I recently tried my first “Blue Zone” recipe, the Blue Zone Smoothie, from Dan Buettner’s book The Blue Zone Solution. It would have been delicious if I hadn’t put too much salt in it. In fact, I’m sure it would be fine with no salt at all! The plan is to try Sardinian Tomato Sauce this evening. Another Blue Zone idea I am considering is cutting down on meat. In chili I plan to replace about half of the meat with additional beans, though I am not sure which bean I will use.
