I continue the voyage of discovery in yet another new section of the trail.
Philosophy Dept.: How often have you heard someone (or even yourself) say “I’d love to X, but the reality is I am,” as if to say that a door is closed to one? For example, “I would love to lose weight, but the reality is that I’m fat. I’ve always been fat, never been able to lose weight – it’s just reality and I have to accept it.” Or “I’d like to go to college, but the reality is I’m just not smart enough.” Poppycock! Nothing in the future is reality until it happens. Challenge “reality”. Question it. Make your own reality. Nothing is impossible.
Hydration Dept.: Here is a rule of thumb for how much water you should drink. Take your weight in pounds, divide that number in two. This is the number of ounces of water you should drink every day.
Diet Dept.: When you go to someone’s house for a meal, you have less control over what you eat. It’s similar to the problem of having “normal-eating” people as dinner guests. They might not want tuna and crackers for dinner! I have a lunch engagement coming up and a breakfast out the same day, so I am eating light to prepare, or put some calories in the bank for that. My neutral caloric intake rate is about 1400 calories right now, but I have gone up a few pounds in the last few days, so I’ll take that back to 1200-1300 for the next couple of days.
